Pre-requisites: Introduction course or equivalent experience
Duration: Live aboard for two weekends. This course includes about 36 hours of sail training and about 5 hours of night time sailing.
Cost: £500/$880 AU*. Includes meals and accommodation on board overnight
Don't forget that annual club membership costs only £30/$50 AU a year and will entitle you to come on any of our low-priced members' courses
Knowledge of sea terms and parts of a boat, rigging and sail
• Sufficient knowledge to understand orders given concerning the sailing and day-to-day running of the boat
Sail Handling
• Bending on setting, reefing and handing of sails
Ropework
• Handling ropes including coiling, stowing, securing to cleats and single and double bollards
• Handling warps
• Ability to tie and know how to use:-
• Bowlines, Round turn and two half hitches, single and double sheetbends, reef knots
Fire Precautions and Fire fighting
• Awareness of the hazards of fire and the precautions necessary to prevent fire.
• Knows action to be taken in the event of fire
Personal Safety Equipment
• Understands and complies with rules for the wearing of safety harnesses and personal buoyancy aids
Man Overboard
• Understands action to be taken to recover a man overboard
Distress Signals
• Can operate distress flares and knows on what occasion to use them
Rules of the Road
• Is able to keep an efficient lookout at sea
Dinghies
• Understands and complies with loading rules and is able to handle a dinghy under oars and motor
Meteorology
• Is aware of forecasting services and understands weather forecasting information
Sea-sickness
• Working efficiency when affected by sea-sickness
Helming and sailing
• Understands the basic theory of sailing and can steer and trim sails on all points of sailing.
• Can steer a compass course under sail and power
Engines
• Is able to stop and carry out simple checks on the owner serviceable parts and systems of an inboard and an outboard
Artificial Resuscitation and First Aid
